How much does it cost to attend STARBASE?
Since STARBASE is federally funded, there is no cost for students who wish to attend. Schools must provide transportation to and from our facility.
Does STARBASE Alpena provide lunches?
We do not have a cafeteria or a kitchen facility, so students are asked to provide their own non-perishable lunch.
What grade levels can attend?
Our program is centered on the 5th grade curriculum, and we now have a new 6th-grade program we offer, as well. Sometimes 4th-grade students in 4/5 splits attend STARBASE with their class.
How many students can visit STARBASE at once?
We have two classrooms. Each class is set up to hold up to 32 students.
How much time do students spend at STARBASE?
During the school year, students visit five times over the course of five weeks. Class time is usually from 9:00 to 2:00, though this can vary.
How can I attend STARBASE with my child?
We encourage participation, and would love to have you visit as a chaperone. Parent volunteer forms are sent to teachers along with the rest of the paperwork for STARBASE. Parents who wish to access our facility need to fill out this security form, which much be submitted ten (10) business days before the date parents wish to attend.
My child loved attending STARBASE. Is there a way s/he can return?
Besides offering our 6th grade program, we also offer academies in the summer. Keep checking back for details about this program, which runs for a full week (usually in June) from 9:00am to 2:00pm. There is no cost, but parents must provide transportation and a non-perishable lunch.
My class doesn’t attend STARBASE. Do you accept new students?
We encourage any school that isn’t currently attending STARBASE to have their administrator contact us. We would be happy to work with that school to schedule a session.
